Kowloon Walled City Arcade

First of all if you aren’t aware what Kowloon Walled City was I suggest the book City of Darkness because it is a fascinating insight into the place.  Basically in summation it was a dystopian-like ultra populated small area in Hong Kong before it was torn down.  Photos of the place are fascinating.

I mean this isn’t a photo of the real place as it was torn down when I was a kid, but it did remind me of it and Shutterstock doesn’t have any photos of it.

WAIT…I found a free use photo!

Even if it was still around I mean how could you even visit that place?

Now, this arcade in Japan, Anata No Warehouse, is modeled after Kowloon Walled City and since the real thing was torn down it’s probably the closest anyone can get to the real place ever again.  It has a super cool entrance and it’s only a ten minute walk from the Kawasaki Station.  Here’s a video of the entrance.  I mean I have a video myself from a 4 year old GoPro but I won’t subject you to that nad compression.  Also worth noting it is an adults only arcade so you won’t see kids around.

The Entrance

Sadly I don’t have a ton of photos of the place because they weren’t allowed of the main area, so you’ll have to settle with these blurry ones…or just watch the video above that may be better.

It’s multi-leveled as well so if the arcade vibe isn’t your thing the upper levels have a bar with pool tables to hang in.  Overall, it is definitely my favorite arcade in Tokyo(so far).

Also it has a solid grunge aesthetic.

That’s about all there is on this! So, read that book then go to Tokyo, easy peasy!
